NCC INCULCATES IN YOUTH A SENSE OF NATIONALISM AND SECULAR OUTLOOK: SHRI KAMAT
Chief Minister Shri Digambar Kamat has said that NCC can make a lot of difference as it inculcates in the youth a sense of nationalism and secular outlook that contributes towards the building of the nation.
Shri Kamat was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Awards Presentation ceremony of The Navhind Times Ex-NCC Achievers Awards-2010 organized by the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) at Goa International Centre, Dona Paula on June 30, 2010.
Speaking further Shri Kamat said that the NCC provides a platform for individual upliftment through the process of channelizing the energy of the youth in constructive pursuits. Besides giving thrill and excitement, NCC promotes camaraderie and resilience and hones cultural skills to preserve the cultural traditions and values of the society. It helps the youth to realize the intimate relationship between man and the community, between community and nature and their inter-dependability.
The Navhind Times Ex-NCC Achiever awards were presented to Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Shri Pratapsingh Rane, Superintendent of Police, South(Politics), Shri Jose Allan D’Sa, former Superintendent of Police Shri Fintan D’Souza (Senior NCC Achiever), Director of Social Welfare Shri Sanjeev Gadkar (Civil services), Advocate Shri Ajitsingh Rane ( Legal) and Shri John Aguair of Information & Publicity Department(Literature/Media).
Speaking as the Special Guest on the occasion Commissioner for NRI Affairs Shri Eduardo Faleiro said that Goans have distinguished themselves in the Indan Armed Forces and have displayed military valour and courage in difficult times. Goan youth should be motivated to join the Armed Forces. The starting salary for a commissioned officer in the Armed Forces as of today is Rs. 35,000/- and goes upto about Rs. 1 lakh and in addition there are several perks and benefits.
The NCC he said develops the physical and mental fitness of our youth. Training in the NCC should be made compulsory for all students for atlest two years. There is one NCC Directorate for Goa and Karnataka. There is a demand that facilities available to NCC Cadets in Karnataka should be available to the cadets in Goa. This demand should be considered sympathetically.
Goan youth Shri Faleiro said should also compete at the Central Civil Services examination. He said in the last budget speech the Chief Minister had announced that Administrative Training Institute would be set up in Goa. Whilst the proposed Institute develops the required training facilities, scholarships may be awarded by our Government to deserving candidates to prepare themselves for the central civil services examination at reputed coaching centers in metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. These coaching classes he said start usually in the month of November for those who appear for the examination in the ensuring year.
Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Shri Pratapsingh Rane said that he believes in discipline which he said is the only way we can go forward. Discipline he said can take the country to the pinnacles of Glory. He said, though he had taken NCC at the junior division level it gave him lot of confidence and lessons in discipline and self reliance.
Executive Director of Navhind Times Smt. Pallavi Dhempo said that she was proud to be associated with these awards.
Director of Goa International Centre Smt. Nandani Sahay who was herself a NCC cadets also narrated her experiences.
Shri Ajitsingh Rane and Shri Alan D’Sa spoke on behalf of the awardees.
Project Manager Shri Pradip Sawant in his speech gave a brief idea about the project and later introduced the guests.
President of the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association, Adv. Avinash Bhonsle in his welcome address highlighted the activities and aim behind the association. He said that the new organization is a state level body and therefore this was the maiden function of the Association.
Secretary of the Association Shri Pramod Naik proposed a vote of thanks. Kumari Prachi Pradip Sawant compered the function.
Station Commander and Commandant 2STC, Brig. K. S. Chauhan, Director, Department of Sainik Welfare, Maj. Venugopal Nair, Dr. Edward D’ Lima, Senior Army Officers of Corps of Signals, Junior Commissioned officers and Non Commissioned officers of Signals and 1 Goa Battalion NCC, NCC Naval cadets of Don Bosco. NCC Cadets of St. Xaviers College, Mapusa, and prominent citizens were present.
