KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS OBSERVED

The  Cycle rally  was flagged off by the Director  of Information & Publicity, Shri Shri Swapnil Naik. Director  of Information & Publicity flagged off a cycle rally to commemorate the Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2013 from Azad Maidan. President of the Association Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar, Dy. SP Shri Mahesh Gaonkar, Shri Dinar Singbhal and others were present.


To commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan in Kargil War and to pay homage to those who laid down their lives, the fourteenth  anniversary celebrations of ‘Operation Vijay Diwas’ was held under aegis State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) on July 26, 2013.

The function was conducted to express the nation’s gratitude to the Martyrs.

          Rich tributes were paid to the soldiers and the officers of  Indian Army who laid down their lives in the Kargil  war by the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) today.
          A Cycle rally was organised from Azad Maidan to Miramar in association with the Goa Cycle Club.The  Cycle rally  was flagged off by the Director  of Information & Publicity, Shri Swapnil Naik.
Shri Swapnil Naik said that Kargil conflict was a poignant but decisive part of India’s victory which highlighted the courage, conviction and commitment of Indian Army in safeguarding the motherland from any external aggression.
President of the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) explained the importance of the occasion and said that the young people have to take inspiration from the Kargil heroes and do something for their country.
Brig.(Retd.) Ian da Costa, VSM Kumaon regiment. Brig da Costa an infantry officer was awarded a VSM for counter insurgency operations in the North East between 1983-85. Not once, but twice before, he was recommended for gallantry awards, both in the 1965 and 1971 wars.  Speaking on the occasion he appreciated  lauded the Ex-NCC Cadets for remembering the Kargil heroes.
Deputy Superintendent of  Police, Shri Mahesh Gaonkar,  Shri Dinar Singhbal, Shri Pramod Naik, Sensai Joseph Rodrigues and others were present on the occasion.

RICH TRIBUTES PAID TO KARGIL MARTYRS

Rich tributes were paid to  the Martyrs on the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 25, 2013 at  Azad Maidan. On the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas a  night vigil   organized   by the State Ex Cadets NCC Association to observe Kargil “Vijay Diwas” at Azad Maidan in Panjim on  the eve of  the Kargil Day i.e.  July 25, 2013.
A large number of Ex-NCC cadets, Ex-Servicemen, citizens were present.
The Ex-cadets, Ex-Servicemen and  people from all walks of life lighted candles and paid their respects to the brave jawans. 
Maj. Venugopal Nair (Retd.), Secretary of  Department of Sainik Welfare and  an Infantry Officer  was present on the occasion.  He recalled how the Armed Forces, undaunted by the adverse terrain and extreme weather conditions, rose to the occasion during ‘Operation Vijay’ to safeguard the honour and territorial integrity of the Nation. He said  the war was  one of the most recent examples of high altitude warfare in mountainous terrain, which posed significant logistical problems for the combating sides. Indian army launched its final attacks in the last week of July; as soon as the Drass subsector had been cleared of Pakistani forces, the fighting ceased on July 26. The day has since been marked as Kargil Vijay Diwas in India. 527 soldiers and airmen laid down their lives during the Kargil war he added.
          President of the Association Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar also spoke on the occasion.
 Immediate Past President Shri Pradeep Naik, Vice President  Shri Pandurang Hegde, Secretary, Shri John Aguiar, Dy. S. P. Shri Mahesh Gaonkar, Shri Pramod Naik, Miss Sadika Buddashet and Shri Pralhad Mayekar and Shri Dinar Singbal, Capt Dattaram Sawant, Shri Bhalchandra Amonkar and others were present.

Shri Manguesrish Pai  Raikar has been unanimously elected as the President of the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) at the meeting held  on July 22, 2013. 
The other members of the committee are Immediate Past President Shri Pradip M. Sawant,  Vice Presidsents  Shri Pandurang Hegde, Dr. Vinaykumar Pai Raikar and Adv. Prachi Sawant.   Joint Secretary Ms. Sadika Buddashet,  Treasurer Shri  Pramod G. Naik, Joint Treasurer Shri Pralhad Mayekar , Members Shri Vijay saxena, Adv. Avinash Bhosle, Dr. Pramod Yadav, Shri Allan De sa, Shri Navin Acharya, Shri Dinar Singhbal and Chief Warden Officer of HAWKS: an emergency rescue squad of the Association Shri  Rupesh Parvatkar.
Also sub committees have been elected : Finance Committee: Shri Keshav Prabhu, programme Organising Committee Shri Laximidas Mangueshkar and Shri Pramod Naik, Public Awareness Committee Dr. Vinaykumjar Pai Raikar, Public Relations Committee Smt. Rahi Banasatarkar and Shri Jamaluddin Shaikh.
The committee decided to enroll news members and for fresh membership drive to enroll Ex-NCC cadets in the association. Also it was decided to organize career guidance camps and SSB coaching for aspirants willing to join the armed forces.

General Dr. S. F. Rodrigues, former Chief of Army Staff and former Governor of Punjab was the  Chief Guest, Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion NCC, Col. D.K. Chaturvedi was the Guest of honour  while Editor of Navhind Times Shri Arun Sinha was the Special Guest. Also present were the President of the Association Shri Pradip Sawant, Shri  John Aguiar, Senior Vice President Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar and Project Manager Kum Sadika Buddshet.



EX-NCC ACHIEVERS  HONOURED WITH ACHIEVERS AWARDS

Ex-NCC achievers were honoured with the Ex-NCC Achievers awards  at a  function organised by the State Ex-cadets NCC Association( SENA) on July 20, 2013  at Kala Academy Black box. The Association  honoured  personalities who were ex-NCC cadets for their distinguished and meritorious services in different fields at a function held at Kala Academy  in Panjim.  
General Dr. S. F. Rodrigues,PVSN, VSM former Chief of Army Staff and former Governor of Punjab was the  Chief Guest, Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion NCC, Col. D.K. Chaturvedi was the Guest of honour  while Editor of Navhind Times Shri Arun Sinha was the Special Guest.
Those honoured were  Judge  Desmond D'Costa, District Judge, Ms. Jyoti Rane Rebello, first lady paratrooper NCC cadet from Goa, Major  Dr. Tushar Anvekar, Associate NCC Officer, Shri  Mohan Naik, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pravin Zantye, Industries, Shri  Laximidas Mangueshkar Trekker  (Sports), Shri  Shollet Pereira, Goa Civil Services and  Shri Pralhad Mayekar Social service. In non NCC category a Verna resident and a good Samaritan Bonaventure D'Souza who came to the rescue of two little children who were dumped down the Anmod Ghat valley by the two accused persons after having brutally murdered their parents will be felicitated for his good work.  
          Speaking on the occasion Gen. Rodrigues said  if we have good people around,  it can be good place to live in. We have to catch them  young and train them to be good citizens and good leaders of the country. He said sixty percent of Indians are in the Silicon Valley. We hear about Indians doing remarkable things abroad. Why can’t we do the same thing here in our country , he wondered.
Shri Arun Sinha, Editor of Gomantak Times spoke about fundamentalists marring the feeling of oneness among Indians and said that it needs to be countered to bring down inside threats brewing in the country.
Commanding officer of 1 Goa Battalion, NCC Col. D. K. Chaturvedi said that NCC syllabus lays greater stress on developing quality of leadership and officer like qualities.
Shri John Aguiar said that the group is formed to serve as a forum of friendship and exchange of ideas and information. He highlighted the activities that are carried by the Association.
Earlier President of the Association, Shri Pradeep Naik welcomed the gathering while Kum. Sadika Buddashet proposed a vote of thanks. The function was compared by Adv.
