PRADEEP SAWANT ELECTED PRESIDENT OF “SENA”




Shri Pradip M. Sawant, a teacher working for Bhagwati High School Pernem and an former Seniro Under Officer of NCC has been unanimously elected as the President of the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association (SENA) at its General Body meeting held at Goa International Centre on October 17, 2011.

The other office bearers are Adv. Avinash Bhosle, Immediate Vice President, Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar, Seniro Vice President, Shri John Aguiar, Vice President (Admn.), Shri Pramod Naik, Vice President (Welfare), Smt. Netra P. Sawant, General Secretary, Shri Vijay Saxena , Welfare Secretary, Shri Pralhad Mayekar, Organising Secretary, Shri Vikrant Prabhudessai, Finance Secretary, Kum Sadika Buddashet, Joint Secretary, Shri Pandurang Hegde, Treasurer, Shri Jaiprakash Nagvekar, Joint Treasurer, Dr. Edward D’Lima, Advisor, Shri Shashikant Sardessai, Shri Bhanudas Dessai, Shri Wilson D’Souza, Shir Nilesh Rane, Shri Dinar Singhbal and Smt. Fatima as Executive members. Shri Audumbar Shinde (Tarun Bharat) has been elected as Public Relations Officer.

NCC instills character and virtues of dedication, discipline: Admiral D'Silva

Vice Admiral John D’ Silva, (Retd.) AVSM, PVSM said that the training imparted by the NCC instills character and virtues of dedication, discipline, commitment and team work. The NCC he said is going strong in the country. However, there is a need to broad-base it even further and more school and college students must be encouraged and motivated to join NCC. NCC is a direct route to the Armed Forces, as a good number of NCC cadets join the Armed Forces.

Admiral D’Silva was speaking as the Chief Guest at the NT Ex-NCC Achievers function organized by the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association at gao Chamber of Commerce Hall in Panjim on June 25, 2011.

Admiral D’ Silva said that a trained NCC cadet becomes not only physically fit, but can also fight against social evils and make a positive contribution to the society. he congratulated the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association and the Navhind Times group for instituting such an award.


The Navhind Times Samaj Seva Bhushan was presented to Dr. Premanand Ramani a renown Spine Surgeon for his contribution for the society. Ex-NCC Achiever awards were presented to Chairman of Planning Board Dr. Wilfred de Souza, GCCI President Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Shri Jaiprakash Nagvekar, jt. Director Planning Shri Vijay Saxena, Mrs. Natasha Fereira, Photo Journalist Shri Umesh Banastarkar, Shri Pradip Gajanan Naik and Shri Pradip M. Sawant.

Dr. Wilfred de Souza while speaking on the occasion exprres the need for making NCC compulsory. Editor of the Navhind Times also spoke on the occasion

Among the awardees Shri Manguerish Pai Raikar, Shri Vijay Saxena spoke while Dr. Ramani gave a presentation about his work.

Project Manager Shri Pandurang Hegde in his speech gave a brief idea about the project and later introduced the guests.

President of the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association, Adv. Avinash Bhonsle in his welcome address highlighted the activities and aim behind the association.

Secretary of the Association Shri Pramod Naik proposed a vote of thanks. Miss Debora Menezes compered the function.

Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Girls Battalion NCC, Secretary, Department of Sainik Welfare, Maj. Venugopal Nair, Senior Army Officers of Corps of Signals, Junior Commissioned officers and Non Commissioned officers of Signals and 1 Goa Battalion NCC, NCC Cadets of St. Xaviers College, Mapusa and S.S. Dempo Commerce college, Panjim and prominent citizens were present.

ACT OF BRAVERY

Major Amit Anand Parab, has been recognised for his exemplary courage in killing a dreaded terrorist of the Hizbul Maujahideen in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Maj Parab, an officer in the Indian Army’s 27 Rajput Regiment and a Goan hailing from Bicholim, has been awarded “Sena Medal” for gallantry for his exemplary courage, dare devilry, audacity, sheer grit, perseverance under heavy fire from close range, sharp presence of mind and admirable leadership qualities. Maj Parab's overall supervision played a vital role in killing a dreaded terrorist, Shabir Ahmed, Battalion Commander of Hizbul Maujahideen in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 13, 2010, when Maj. Parab was posted with the Rashstriya Rifles Unit in Kashmir Valley. Maj Parab was an NCC cadet studying in DMC College, Mapusa and has, till date  taken part in several operations. Under his leadership, eight terrorists have been killed in combat. The Gallantry award was announced in his name on August 15, 2011.
