ACT OF BRAVERY

Major Amit Anand Parab, has been recognised for his exemplary courage in killing a dreaded terrorist of the Hizbul Maujahideen in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Maj Parab, an officer in the Indian Army’s 27 Rajput Regiment and a Goan hailing from Bicholim, has been awarded “Sena Medal” for gallantry for his exemplary courage, dare devilry, audacity, sheer grit, perseverance under heavy fire from close range, sharp presence of mind and admirable leadership qualities. Maj Parab's overall supervision played a vital role in killing a dreaded terrorist, Shabir Ahmed, Battalion Commander of Hizbul Maujahideen in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 13, 2010, when Maj. Parab was posted with the Rashstriya Rifles Unit in Kashmir Valley. Maj Parab was an NCC cadet studying in DMC College, Mapusa and has, till date  taken part in several operations. Under his leadership, eight terrorists have been killed in combat. The Gallantry award was announced in his name on August 15, 2011.
